The previous El-Clasico fixtures were completely dominated by Real Madrid. Competing for the Super Copa trophy, Real Madrid literally destroyed the Copa del Rey champions, winning 5-1 on aggregate.

Since then, fortunes have turned for both clubs. Real Madrid are now 11 points behind Barcelona on the La Liga table. Messi also leads the top scorer list in La Liga this season.

The Blaugranas seem to have taken the Copa Espana lesson at heart and now rank favorites to winning the 236th El Clasico fixture.

Bad news for Barcelona is that Umtiti and Rafinha recently got injured and won’t feature in the El-Clasico. Dembele is also suffering from a serious injury and won’t make his comeback anytime soon.

Real Madrid have their complete squad at their disposal. Gareth Bale recently made his comeback from injury and scored in the semi-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup.

Zidane is one of those who have mastered the art of winning El Clasicos. Since the 4-0 disappointment at the Bernabeu, the Madrid side have bounced back admirable with Zidane at the helm.

Since that famous loss, Madrid have won three out of the five El Clasicos they’ve competed in, and have lost only one.

A win will do him good in reducing the points difference between the two clubs.  A loss, on the other hand, would almost guarantee that Barcelona will clinch the La Liga title this season.
