July 04, 2016: The last tie saw France competing against Iceland – a team enjoying a dream run but the French guns turned it into a nightmare for them. 7 goals scored in the game which was looking like a goal fest where France claimed the win by 5 goals to 2. One word to describe the match “Destruction”, as French moved an inch closer to glory.

July 03, 2016: The Azzurri were against the Germans and it was the tie to watch. Germany, being the favorite, had more pressure but the Italians had to prove their metal as they were doing in the tournament so far. Defeating the defending champions, Spain in the Quarter Final, the attitude was clear and the determination was strong but Germans came in with a complete package, which was tough to defeat. However, the tie ended in a draw in the allocated 90 minutes and no team was able to score the goal in the extra time as well. The tie was settled through a shoot-out where Germany came out at the top.

July 02, 2016: The Wales stunned the hot-favorite Belgium and not just stunned but completely demolished it. The second quarter-final saw the impressive Welsh team competing against the mighty Belgium, who was also among the favorites to win the cup. To our surprise, the result shocked many as Wales destroyed Belgium by 3-1. A humiliating defeat to send Belgium packing was enough to raise the confidence of Welsh.

July 01, 2016: Poland and Portugal were drawn in the first quarter final and both the teams showcased an impressive display, proving that both deserve to go ahead. Although Portugal were the eventual winners but Poland were equally good. The match had some really exciting stats and records that made the evening a memorable one. Robert Lewondoski scored the fastest and not to forget the first goal of quarter-finals stage. 100 seconds was all that it took Lewandowski to send the ball behind the net and register his name in the record books. Poland took the lead which was equalized by the youngest goal scorer of the tournament, Renato Sanches with a styling finish. The 18-year-old wonder kid proved his worth with a spectacular feat and showed the world why the German giants, Bayern Munich were so keen on signing him. Well, both the teams had to settle for goal apiece in the allocated 90 minutes. Even in the extra time the tie was an unsettled business which forced the match to head towards penalties. The draw specialists Portugal showed great temperament and claimed victory on penalties by 5 goals to 3. That’s how Portugal became the first team to seize a spot in the last 4.

June 26, 2016: The day when mighty demolishes the minnows! Republic of Ireland, who had a strong end to their group stage, were against the host, France. They drew the first blood but it was France who came on top after two exciting goals form Antonio Griezmann. The atmosphere after the win at Lyon was brilliant and some unbelievable scenes were witnessed. In the next mach, Germany had to overcome Slovakia, which they did quite convincingly by 3 goals to nil. The word “efficient” sums up German’s victory in one word. The German’s have conveyed the message that they want to add another accolade to their list of achievements. Also, what is required to win this tournament is present in their ranks. Belgium Red Devils had to face a tough challenge from Hungary, which they did quite easily by scoring four goals and maintaining a clean sheet. The captain, Eden Hazard, rose to the occasion and delivered a memorable performance. The day clearly exhibited that minnows were outclassed and dumped easily.

June 25, 2016: The stage was set for the knockout bouts of Euro 2016. The first day of knockouts saw 6 teams competing against each other. In the first match, Poland had to overcome Switzerland, which was only settled after a penalty shootout. Both teams were able to find the back of the net just once in the allotted 90 minutes. In the extra time, both sides failed to score and the bout had to settle through penalties where Poland got the better off the Swiss. The Xhedran Shaqiri thunderbolt was the most exciting moment of the match.

In the next match, Wales and Northern Ireland were competing to keep their fairytales alive. The match started with positive skills but the momentum was low and the excitement was missing. Alas, the battle had to settle only through an own goal from McAuley allowing Wales to progress. In the next match, the resilient Portuguese, blessed to have Cristiano Ronaldo on their bench, had to face the running Croatian’s who were in a great form. However, the result was shocking as a stunning goal from Quresma separates the two sides. This was the most surprising result of the knockout stage so far, which exhibits the quality Portugal has on their bench.

June 23rd 2016: What an exciting end to the group stages of Euro 2016. The last and the conclusive day saw two groups, E & F in action. We saw some thrilling encounters last night as every team came up with their best performances so far. 3 teams each have qualified for the next round and it was well deserved.

In the first bout, the teams from group F were in action. Portugal competed against Hungary while Austria faced the challenge from the newbie, Iceland. It was a “do or die” situation for every team in the group. Portugal, headed by Cristiano Ronaldo, gave their best performance so far in the tournament but failed to claim their first win. The six goal thriller forced both the teams to settle for a point each but the fate of Portugal wasn’t decided yet. In another match, Iceland, the surprise entrants, claimed the win against Austria with a stoppage time winner that helped Iceland as well as Portugal progress to the round of 16. Hungary finished at the top of the table followed by Iceland and Portugal.

The Belgium red devils were against Zlatan of Sweden. A win was must for the both the teams to progress. However, it was the Belgium brigade that came on top with a 1 nil win. A disappointing end to Zlatan’s Euro 2016 journey that appears to be his last. However, Italy topped the table and progressed to the next round along with Belgium and Republic of Ireland.

Six goal thrillers, late winners, shocking results, heartbreaks, accomplishment, joy, emotions and many more added new flavors to the last and the conclusive day for the group stages that happens to be the best so far. An exciting thing to notice is that Portugal is the only team in the tournament that has not lost a single match but yet to win one as well. That’s all from now; see you in the next round.

22nd June 2016: Another exciting day, another thrilling end. Group D had a twist last night where Croatians were against the defending champions and the favorites, Spain. Undoubtedly, the match has been the finest so far and the result may have shocked many but it was a well deserved win for Croatia. They got the better off Spain with 2 goals to 1, showcasing beautiful and exciting display of football. The Spanish team got the chance to be at the front in the form of penalty kick. The captain, Sergio Ramos step-forward but denied. This win allowed Croatia to finish at the top of Group D. In another encounter, Turkey was against Czech Republic in a do or die encounter for both the sides. The Turkish side outplayed Czech’s by 2 goals to nil to give themselves a slight chance to progress in the next round.

14th June2016: Hungry came up as a surprise beating Austria with a 2 Goal margin. Hungry has joined the European Championship after decades and provided a promising start to their 2016 campaign. Portugal faced a blow to their campaign as they were held by Iceland for goal apiece.

13th June 2016: The day when the defending champions, Spain were in action but unexpectedly saw a rough challenge form the Czechs.  However, a late winner from Pique gave an encouraging start to Spain’s title retention campaign. Ireland and Sweden had to settle for a point each after both sides were only able to find the back of the net only once. The big news came when Italy demolished the defensive wall of the favorites Belgium and easily climbing the challenge by 2 goal lead. This came as a shocker for many and forced many to think again before writing off Italy.

12th June 2016: The third day of Gala encountered some suggested outcomes as Croatia was able to beat Turkey by a 1 goal margin. Similarly, the stiffly Poland equipped with their powerhouse, Lewondoski also cleared the challenge posed by Northern Island quite conveniently.  However, the big match that saw Ukraine facing the world champions, Germany did not delivered any upset as Germany gained the 2 goal lead that was maintained till the end.

11th June 2016: Switzerland also gave a remarkable start to their campaign by seeing off Albania in a steady encounter. The match has something interesting to share as two brothers were against each other. Taulant Xhaka and Griant Xhaka played against each other representing different nations. This was the first time in the history of Euro Cup that two brothers face-off each other as opponents. On the other hand, Wales also proved their potential and marked the day as a memorable day which will be remembered for ages as Wales beat Slovakia 2-1 to start their journey on high. Wales joined the Euro Party after decades and the victory has encouraged the emotion flow for long. The second day of Euro2016 witnessed some astonishing free-kicks from Bale and Dier. The last encounter was between Russia and England. England took the lead and dominated most of the match but was not able to hold on to it as a late equalizer form Berezutski deemed the English hopes.  The saddest part was the brawl between the Russian and English fans which later on forced the officials to give a strict warning to the fans from both sides.
