Basketball at Olympics Games

Basketball first made an appearance at the Olympics back in 1904 in a demonstration event. From 1936 onwards, the sport has continued to make an appearance in each Olympics event. Women’s basketball also made its debut in the Summer Olympics back in 1976.

Until now, the most successful nation in Olympic Basketball is the United States. The country’s men’s team has already won 15 of the 18 tournaments that they have participated in, including a streak of seven consecutive titles that lasted from 1936 to 1968. The United States women’s team is equally impressive, having won 8 titles out of the 10 tournaments they have competed in.

There are only four other nations that have ever won the basketball event in the Olympics. These nations include Argentina, the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia, and the Unified Team.

The upcoming event in the 2020 Summer Olympics is going to be even more exciting now that 3×3 basketball is becoming an official Olympic sport. In this new variation, teams of 3 will compete against each other on a single basketball hoop.

The sport was supposed to be played last year in the summer season. However, it was delayed by a year due to the spread of the pandemic. Thankfully, though, the situation is now much better than it was a year ago, and we’ll be seeing plenty of basketball action in the upcoming Olympic Games. The event will start on July 24 and will continue until August 8.
