After limping off during Bayern Munich’s match against Werder Bremen with a leg injury, Sadio Mane is reportedly out of the 2022 World Cup. The former Liverpool attacker was substituted barely 20 minutes into Bayern’s 6-1 victory against Bremen on Tuesday night, raising serious concerns about his fitness for the tournament in Qatar, which begins in less than two weeks.
Bayern Munich has announced that he will miss Saturday’s game against Schalke. The injury occurs just 13 days before Senegal’s first World Cup match against the Netherlands in Al Thumama Stadium. Mane, Senegal’s all-time leading scorer, scored the game-winning penalty shootout goal against Egypt earlier this year, giving Senegal their first Africa Cup of Nations victory.

Mane, a two-time African Footballer of the Year, is a vital player for Senegal, who faces the Dutch in their first Group A encounter on November 21 before facing hosts Qatar and Ecuador. His absence would be a big setback for coach Aliou Cisse, who would be forced to change a lineup he had almost selected before flying to Qatar.
Mane is the latest high-profile player to have an injury ahead of the World Cup in Qatar. Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante (France), Timo Werner (Germany), Diogo Jota (Portugal), Georginio Wijnaldum (Netherlands), and Ben Chilwell (England) are also injured before the upcoming 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
