The top contenders in the Lightweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) are currently being sorted out. Islam Makhachev will relax and participate in the upcoming UFC 281 fight on November 12, 2022, now that he is in charge.

On that occasion, Chandler will compete against Dustin Poirier, another former title contender. Unfortunately for them, the new champion thinks either winner will still need more victories. Both men want to re-establish themselves as the next in line for title opportunities.

Islam Makhachev statement

Islam Makhachev mentioned during a media scrum that Michael Chandler has only fought four times for the belt. With him only winning twice. He does not think that even Dustin Poirier will get an immediate title shot.

After submitting Charles Oliveira with ease in the second round at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi. Makhachev appeared to have his first opponent for the title prepared.

Chandler tells his plan ahead of UFC 281

Prior to his fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 281 on Saturday, Chandler talked to the media about Makhachev’s plans and how he might match up with him.

In addition to being at the top of any list of contenders, Chandler believes that his exciting fighting style makes him the best candidate to end Makhachev’s 11-fight winning streak. “I honestly think my wrestling will stop his attacks,” Chandler said. “I think I can take him down”.
