The sixty-eight-year old Ashoori has been a victim of serving in Iran’s jail based upon no actual evidence. After being released after four and a half years, he plans to run in the London Marathon 2022.
Hence, this weekend’s London Marathon will feature Anoosheh Ashoori and his 32-year-old son Aryan as part of a campaign by Amnesty International UK to free British citizens who have been unjustly imprisoned in Iran.
The part of London Marathon 2022 in the movement
As part of its No-One Left Behind campaign, Amnesty is urging ministers to create a clear plan for securing the immediate and unconditional release of British nationals held in detention abroad. Some of the families of UK citizens jailed in this way have been highly critical of the UK government’s response.
Part of Ashoori’s plan include gaining sponsors and raising funds for the purpose of Amnesty. The London Marathon 2022 will help him achieving his targets.
Anoosheh Ashoori said:
“I always say that there are two golden rules for victory – rule one is that you should always remember that perseverance pays off, and rule two is that you must never forget rule number one! That’s how I’ll be tackling the London Marathon.”
