Reportedly, David Beckham is receiving an amount of £150m from Qatari officials. However, the former star player is facing backlash for his support at the FIFA World Cup. The event is kicking off on 20th November.
Qatar has strict rules regarding its laws and cultures and people are disliking them. Beckham recently stated that the World Cup provides a platform for progress, inclusivity, and tolerance.
David Beckham ‘message for the youth’
David’s video message at the Supreme Committee ‘Generation Amazing’ youth festival was played in Doha. There he also sent a message to the youth that ‘today is your day to dream’.
In the run-up to this World Cup, concerns about workers’ and LGBTQ+ rights were raised. Along with queries about how much Qatar has changed since being given the event in 2010. Beckham, however, didn’t seem uncertain about how far the nation had come.

“Qatar dreamed of bringing the World Cup to a place that it had never been before, but that it wouldn’t be enough just to achieve things on the pitch,” he said. “The pitch would be a platform for progress.”
He also said: “Dreams can come true. That is why you are here. You share Generation Amazing’s twin passions for the game of football and for making the world a more tolerant and inclusive place.”
When criticized about supporting Qatar, David mentioned that people there are changing the lives for the better. People in Qatar always hoped for bringing the sports to their country or at least in the middle east.
