As Detroit gears up to host the 2024 NFL Draft from April 25-27, NFL officials and Detroit’s city partners are confident in their safety measures, despite the recent shooting incident at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory parade.

With extensive discussions and planning sessions already in motion, both the NFL and Detroit have been proactive in ensuring the safety of the upcoming draft. This includes preparations for various scenarios, such as mass shootings, to guarantee a secure environment for attendees.

Detroit Police Chief James E. White affirmed the city’s readiness, citing successful hosting experiences of large-scale events like the Ford Fireworks, the Detroit Grand Prix, Thanksgiving Parade, and Lions games. The safety strategy, built on these experiences, aims to safeguard everyone attending the draft and its surrounding areas.

NFL Vice President of Communications Brian McCarthy expressed confidence in the security team’s capabilities and the collaborative plans with Detroit officials. Despite the tragic incident at the Chiefs’ parade, both entities remain committed to delivering a safe and enjoyable draft experience.

The NFL Draft typically draws massive crowds, and security measures, including metal detectors and bag checks, will be in place.

Eric B. Larson, CEO of the Downtown Detroit Partnership, emphasized their dedication to ensuring a secure and welcoming environment, working closely with the Detroit Police Department and the Sports Commission Host Committee.
